Cake lovers across Shropshire will be decorating, baking and icing next month as part of the Hope House and Ty Gobaith Eat Cake Week from April 8th to 15th.

Dozens of cafes, restaurants, schools, clubs, businesses and individuals have already signed up to take part including Alderford Lake Café and Holly Bank Farm near Whitchurch who are dedicating sales from a couple of their tasty homemade cakes for their part in Eat Cake week.  Down the road, Culina Logistics, long term Hope House supporters can’t wait to dig into some cake as part of their 25th anniversary celebrations. Kidszone Nursery in Oswestry raised an incredible £1,300 in 2018 and this year they are holding a “Run for cake” event where the children will need to complete a sporting challenge to earn their baked reward. Crumblicious Oswestry (Artisan bakery sending cream teas across the UK) will kindly be donating 20% of the sales of their Easter cake boxes and their Treat your Staff caked and biscuit boxes. The Hope House Fundraising team are simply over the moon that Planet Doughnut will be creating their own “Hope House Doughnut” to join the Eat Cake brigade.

Last year’s Eat Cake week raised over £12,000 which enabled Hope House and Ty Gobaith to provide vital respite and end of life care to terminally ill children from across Shropshire, Cheshire, North and Mid Wales, and support bereaved families too.

No charge is ever made to families for the help provided – So the charity needs to raise at least £6.3 million every year to make sure it can fund its crucial services.

“If hundreds of schools, community groups, businesses and cafes join in the fun of Eat Cake Week we could smash our total from last year and that would be wonderful,” says Lynsey Kilvert.

“It is a really simple and fun way to help us make a real difference to children and families, and who doesn’t like cake! You can organise a cake sale, your very own bake off – the choice is completely yours!”

A special Eat Cake fundraising pack has been produced which includes banners, stickers, posters, cake toppers and balloons to help you theme your event, and top tips on making it go with a bang!

Children and staff at Hope House in Oswestry and Ty Gobaith in Conwy are already getting involved in the baking bonanza, and staff and volunteers in the charity’s shops in in Bangor, Denbigh, Llandudno, Wrexham, Chester, Nantwich, Bridgnorth, Church Stretton, Ludlow, Shrewsbury, Oswestry, Wellington and Welshpool are creating cake themed windows too.
