Join award-winning journalist and local author Jessica Hatcher-Moore, in The Holroyd Community Theatre, for the launch of her acclaimed new book about postnatal health and recovery: AFTER BIRTH: What Nobody Tells You – How to Recover Body and Mind
“An absolute treasure trove on women’s physical and mental postnatal health – information is power and information is exactly what After Birth delivers” – Milli Hill, author of Give Birth like a Feminist and The Positive Birth Book
Old Moretonian Jessica Hatcher-Moore won numerous awards for her reporting in Africa on women in conflict and women’s rights. After moving back to the UK and having a baby, she was shocked to discover a huge and unaddressed need for postnatal healthcare on home turf. When her doctor told her that a leaky bladder was “normal” six months after giving birth, it fired up the reporter in her. She started talking to other women, and discovered a silent epidemic of postnatal problems.
Her book seeks to end that silence, empowering new mums with information about their bodies and minds and encouraging them to seek help for common, but not normal, postnatal health issues like depression, anxiety, incontinence, and pelvic pain.
Join her – online or in person – in conversation with Chantal Davies, Professor of Law, Equality and Diversity at the University of Chester, for the launch of her taboo-busting first book. AFTER BIRTH: What Nobody Tells You – How to Recover Body and Mind is essential reading for all new mums. Jessica wrote the book whilst pregnant with her second child during the 2020 lockdown.
