Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin is inviting people of all generations to wear something woolly this February to support older people in Shropshire.
The charity’s annual Wear it Woolly campaign raises much-needed funds to help older people to stay warm in winter. And the rules are simple: just wear a woolly item of clothing to work or school and donate to Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin.
Every winter, hundreds of older people across Shropshire struggle to heat their homes because they have higher than average fuel costs or poor home insulation.
Fuel poverty can lead to lasting health problems and in some cases, death. In Shropshire nearly 300 older people will die prematurely from the cold this winter.
All the money raised from Wear it Woolly will be used to support vulnerable older people and help them to stay warm this winter. Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin gives advice about how to keep warm and offers Home Energy Checks to help identify issues and help with repairs and improvements.
Catherine McCloy, Head of Income Generation at Age UK STW, said: “Wear It Woolly is a fun way for people to get involved in fundraising with a serious message attached about the daily struggles faced by older people in Shropshire. The more people who get involved in the campaign, the more money will be raised to support older people over the winter months.”
