Three women from Oswestry have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to their local communities at the High Sheriff of Shropshire Awards, held recently at Telford Fire Station.

The awards celebrated the achievements of Ruth Martin, founder of Martin & Jones Marketing (MJM); Gill Jones, Manager of The New Saints FC Foundation, recognised for the positive impact they make through leadership, community engagement and service.

The ceremony was attended by civic and community leaders from across the county, including Anna Turner, Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire, who joined guests in celebrating the award recipients and their contributions.

Jane Rasquinha – Digital Advisory Bookkeeping

Against the backdrop of the costs, uncertainty, and challenges, Jane launched a new digital bookkeeping venture this year. Guided by a strong social conscience, Jane has donated her time to work closely with Shropshire Community Foundation to embed new time and money-saving systems within the charity and help promote the Foundation.

Gill Jones – The New Saints FC Foundation

Gill Jones has dedicated her career to building community within Shropshire. Working with Shropshire Council and then as The New Saints FC Foundation Manager, she provides engaging youth clubs, activities, and healthy holiday meals. Her work across the county’s northwest focuses on boosting confidence through fun football sessions and supportive youth programming.

Ruth Martin – Martin & Jones Marketing Ltd

Ruth has provided essential campaign support for the High Sheriff over the course of her tenure, in particular helping the Youth Awareness Campaign that has raised nearly £20,000, as well as her work as a Trustee of the Shropshire Community Foundation.

Speaking after the ceremony, MJM’s Ruth Martin said:

“It’s a real honour to be recognised locally, especially alongside people and organisations who do such impactful work for their communities. Shropshire has so many people quietly making a difference, and it’s wonderful to see that recognised.”

The High Sheriff of Shropshire Awards recognise organisations that go above and beyond to serve their communities, whether through business, sport, volunteering or public service. This year’s awards highlighted the role these businesses continue to play in strengthening communities across Shropshire.
