A Telford hairdresser has become the new owner of the salon where she has worked for 18 years after starting her career as a “Saturday girl”.

Joanna Turner is now the proud sole owner of Golden Scissors in Wellington after buying the business from her former boss Grace Joseph.

The takeover comes after Joanna first started working at the sister salon Hair Junction in Leegomery when she was 14 years old on a Saturday before working her way through her qualifications and up the ladder until she moved to Golden Scissors on New Street at 21 years old to become the new manager.

With Joanna at the helm of her own salon it will no longer be a sister salon to Hair Junction which will continue to be owned and run by Grace.

The 39 year old mother of three said owning her own salon had always been a dream but she had been unable to make it a reality whilst she started her family.

“Anyone who knows me knows I love my job and give 100% every single time. I have worked for Grace for 25 years and loved every second of it. I have been able to train other stylists and help people at the beginning of their career,” she said.

“I love people so getting to talk all day long to different people whilst doing the job I love is brilliant. My clients became friends and I have cut their hair since I started here and now their children and even grandchildren too in some cases!

“Grace has given me such a brilliant opportunity and I would like to thank her for her support over the years, specifically now with the business sale.

“Lots of people have said I could have just opened my own salon anywhere but Golden Scissors is where my heart is and it is convenient for elderly clients who travel by bus.

“It’s a real family salon where both parents and the youngsters can all have their hair done together. People always say once they come for their haircut at Golden Scissors once they never go anywhere else.”

Joanna said the pandemic had been extremely hard for all in the industry and she worried for many of her older clients whom she knows only saw people when they came to the hairdressers.

“I did make calls to some of my vulnerable clients during the lockdowns as I was worried about them. They treat me like family so it was only right I did the same for them.

“I have recently cut hair for people at Bowring Park – for those who do not have the confidence to come to a salon, who cannot afford a haircut or had children who were anxious. It was amazing and a fantastic way to give back to the amazing Wellington community,” Joanna said.

“I’m looking forward to putting my own stamp on Golden Scissors but my clients will receive the same service with a smile that they always have done and I am retaining the current staff as we make such a fabulous team.

“I am extremely proud of the business success and wish to thank everyone for their support over the years – 2022 will be a very exciting year as I will be a business owner and getting married too!”
