The old cellars at Tanners Wine Merchants on Wyle Cop in Shrewsbury were the impressive venue and backdrop to the first Taste Good Fortune event to take place in Shropshire recently.

Local man, Philip Robinson, hosted the fun evening which began with a welcome glass of Spanish Cava (to celebrate another anniversary of his Financial Planning advice business) and a brief introduction to the guest speakers.

A tutored tasting followed, given by Tanners own wine expert and Private House Sales Director, Robert Boutflower. Guests sampled a white from Bouzeron, made from old Aligoté vines planted in 1937. And to follow, a Burgundian style red that is produced from a 14 hectares vineyard, close to Etna, that lost half its vines to the 1981 eruption.

The key speaker of the event, Tim Knight, Head of Investment Consultancy at St. James’s Place Wealth Management Plc, had made a flying visit from the company’s Cirencester headquarters, to talk on “investment planning in troubled times.” He delivered positive messages, as well as the benefits to be had from setting up a relationship with a qualified financial planner. He left with everyone wanting to hear more. One guest commented;

“What an excellent speaker. How does he manage to make a dry subject so interesting?”

With everybody comfortably seated in the 15th Century Clive Tanner Suite, Caroline Brown, Ambassador and Head of Wholesale Accounts at Ridiculously Rich by Alana, passed around boxes of luxury handmade cakes. She shared the story of her love for baking and of setting up business as a franchisee, working with support from founder Alana Spencer, winner of Lord Alan Sugars’ Apprentice in 2016.

Philip Robinson brought the convivial evening to a close, presenting the Prize Draw Winner, Clare Butler (solicitor at Hooper Burrowes) with a bottle of Champagne.

When Clare was asked what she thought of the Taste Good Fortune event and winning the Champagne, she replied;

“Fantastic speakers. Absolutely Fabulous!”
