Concert Director Richard Walker at Shrewsbury’s St Chad’s church has announced programme details of the weekly lunchtime concerts for July at St. Chad’s church, Shrewsbury.

Richard Walker said: “We are pleased to welcome some incredibly talented performers to St Chad’s in July and as St Chad’s has one of the finest organs in the area we welcome two excellent organists in July to show it off to its full potential.  On July 4th Geoffrey Leung; a student at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire will play, and we are fortunate to be able to offer a recital every year by one of their students.  Shaun Turnbull returns on July 25th from Leeds Minster to play our magnificent organ.  Both organists will delight our audience with their repertoire.

On July 11th mezzo soprano Imogen Garner will sing for us, accompanied by John Gouch, and on July 18th we have a classical guitar recital by Frederick Lawton.  Guitar music in St Chad’s sounds lovely – and you can shut out the noisy world outside the church and concentrate entirely on the music!

The St Chad’s Concerts in the Round series is one of the biggest in the country – 45 concerts a year, with usually well over 100 there to listen.  Audiences are enthusiastic and many of them have been attending week by week for several years.  But there is always space for more!  Please note that there will be no concert on Friday August 8th.  In September concerts continue weekly until December 21st.

St Chad’s is now welcoming an audience of nearly 150 every Friday at 12.30pm.  Come and join them for 40 minutes’ free music performed by excellent musicians in a lovely church. Details and weekly programmes for these concerts can be found on the St Chad’s Church website www.stchadschurchshrewsbury.com. All concerts are free of charge and there is lunch after each, with a collection taken to cover expenses”.
