Students from a specialist education academy in Shrewsbury have produced a striking collection of fused‑glass trophies for a high‑profile community awards ceremony.
Oswestry‑based home safety company Aico commissioned students from Severndale to design and create bespoke awards for its annual Community Awards, taking place this week at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham.
It marks the second time the three-time Shropshire Company of the Year has partnered with Severndale on a creative commission of this kind.
Working closely with Aico’s marketing team, students developed original design concepts before handcrafting a series of one‑of‑a‑kind glass awards that showcased their artistic flair, technical skill and meticulous attention to detail.
Assistant principal Liz Harrison said: “This was a brilliant opportunity for our students to demonstrate professionalism, creativity and pride in their craft. Each award was individually produced to meet Aico’s specifications, resulting in a beautifully finished collection that was extremely well received.”
Aico praised the students’ craftsmanship and the exceptional quality of the final pieces, which will be handed out to winners at the awards on April 16.
The Aico Community Awards celebrate excellence across the UK housing sector, recognising inspirational colleagues, community initiatives and innovative projects. This year’s ceremony also introduces a new interactive People’s Choice Award, voted for exclusively by attendees on the night.
Liz Harrison added: “This collaboration has given our students invaluable industry experience. To work on a live brief for such a significant event has been incredibly empowering, and we are immensely proud of the professionalism and creativity they have shown.”
She said the partnership highlighted the impact of meaningful project‑based learning and the value of connecting education with real industry opportunities.
