Saturday 12th April will see Shrewsbury Abbey host JS Bach’s B Minor Mass.

Jenny Worley, Chair of Shrewsbury Choral said: “We have some superb soloists from the Royal Northern College of music who will be singing alongside our choir for a beautiful piece of music; indeed performing the superb craftsmanship of JS Bach’s final choral masterpiece.

The Mass in B minor is an extended setting of the Mass ordinary by Johann Sebastian Bach, with the composition completed in 1749, the year before his death. It was to a large extent based on earlier work, such as a Sanctus Bach had composed in 1724, and our audience will really enjoy the magnificence of this sacred and popular work.

Shrewsbury Sinfonia; led by Anne Tupling, will accompany the choir who will perform under the direction of Martin Cook our Musical Director. The soloists will be Juliet Montgomery: Soprano; Ruby Hendry:  Mezzo; Philip O’Connor: Tenor; and Samuel Snowden: Bass/Baritone.

Tickets for the performance are available online now (shrewsburychoral.org.uk/buytickets), via www.shrewsburychoral.org.uk, or from Pengwern Books, Fish Street, Shrewsbury- 01743 232236; from choir members or on the door on the night.
