Ellesmere College has hosted students from its partner school in Saudi Arabia in the first of what promises to be an exciting series of exchange trips.
Pupils from Ellesmere College Riyadh spent a week in Shropshire taking part in an immersion programme that saw them boarding at Ellesmere College, attending lessons, pairing with Ellesmere student buddies and visiting UK attractions such as Chester Zoo, Alton Towers and Liverpool Football Club.
Stephen Mullock, Deputy Head External Relations at Ellesmere College, said: “We were delighted to welcome the very first group of pupils from our partner school, Ellesmere College Riyadh, for an unforgettable immersion programme.
“This visit marked an exciting milestone in our partnership and sets the tone for future exchanges.
“The pupils from Riyadh were exceptional throughout their stay – polite, enthusiastic, and eager to embrace every aspect of Ellesmere life. They truly set the bar high as ambassadors for their school.
“For many, this was their first experience of life in a British boarding school and they approached it with curiosity and confidence.
“During their week-long visit, the pupils had a genuine taste of the boarding experience here and being paired with Ellesmere buddies played a vital role in helping them settle in.
“These buddies were outstanding – welcoming, supportive, and keen to share what makes Ellesmere special. The friendships formed during this programme are a testament to the strength of our community and the value of cultural exchange.
“Outside the classroom, the itinerary was packed with exciting excursions. The group enjoyed a day at Chester Zoo, explored the thrills of Alton Towers, and went shopping at Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet.
“However, the undisputed highlight was the Liverpool FC Stadium Tour at Anfield. From walking through the players’ tunnel to exploring the museum and, of course, visiting the club shop, this experience was a dream come true for many of the pupils.
“Hosting this group was a privilege, and their visit has strengthened the bond between Ellesmere College and Ellesmere College Riyadh. We look forward to welcoming many more pupils in the future as part of these joint immersion programmes, which offer invaluable opportunities for cultural exchange and personal growth.
“I would also like to record my thanks to all the Ellesmere staff who worked tirelessly to make this visit a success. Their care and commitment ensured that our guests felt at home and created memories that will last a lifetime.”
Launched in September last year, Ellesmere College Riyadh caters for local and international students and was opened in partnership with the Glory & Princeton International Schools Group.
The partnership was the second in the region for Ellesmere College – following on from the opening of Ellesmere College Muscat in the capital city of Oman a year earlier. The expansion continued in September this year with the opening of Ellesmere College Doha in Qatar.
