Organisers at Oswestry Community Games have announced that Shropshire’s Di Carrington from Pontesbury is to be guest of honour at the event taking place on 15 September in Cae Glas Park from 11am.

Di, 63, was part of an all-female trio to take on the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, rowing the 3,000 miles from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Antigua in the Caribbean. The journey took 60 days, 18 hours and 34 minutes, and the crew had to contend with 40ft waves, chronic sleep deprivation and strong winds. The team picked up three world records along the way.

Di says: “I will be honoured and delighted to be involved and part of this special day. It will be an absolute privilege to attend the Oswestry Community Games, and I very much look forward to contributing towards making the Games another success.”
