A specialist Shropshire menopause clinic is holding a training seminar for GPs this month after reports that doctors receive very little formal menopause training during their studies.

The founder of Equilibrium clinic, which runs pop-up clinics across the county, was “shocked” at the lack of information medical professionals receive on the menopause.

“More and more patients are coming to us after initially addressing their symptoms with their own GP and not receiving the answer they were looking for,” said founder and hormone specialist Kerry Sheldon-Jones.

“It is not unusual for us to have a patient come to the clinic who has been prescribed anti-depressants by their doctor.”

Determined to bridge the gap in education, Kerry has organised a CPD training seminar to bring medical professionals together in one place.

Taking place at the Shropshire Conference Centre in the grounds of the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital on Monday, March 23 at 7 pm, the event will see Kerry and her team educate guests on different symptoms of both perimenopause and menopause and the different options available including HRT vs BHRT.

Part of the team hosting the event is Equilibrium’s consultant gynaecologist, Dr Naomi Whitelaw, she said: “Hormones play such a huge part in everything we do, when they decline or become imbalanced during the menopause it can cause so much unnecessary suffering including anxiety, depression, hot flushes, weight gain and much more.

“At the seminar, we’ll be sharing the various different options which are available to re-balance hormones again.”

To find out more or book your space at the event and earn your certificate and CPD points, please visit the Eventbrite page. Attendees will also have the opportunity to enter a digital forum where doctors can share information and support one another on the specifics of menopause care.
