Richard Walker, Concert Director at Shrewsbury’s St Chad’s church has announced programme details of the weekly Friday lunchtime concerts for October.

Richard Walker said: “St Chad’s Concerts in the Round hosts 45 free concerts a year!  Every Friday from February to Christmas, you can come to St Chad’s at 12.30pm for 40 minutes of music. On average 150 people attend each week with free admission.

In October we have five very different programmes, beginning on October 2 with a saxophone ensemble based at the Royal Northern College of Music – the Nova Saxophone Quartet.  Come and hear just how versatile an instrument the saxophone can be, when in the right hands.  On October 9, pianist Julia Hartmann returns to give a recital largely of 19th century piano music, and on October 16 Paul Carr, of St Chad’s Cathedral Birmingham will give an organ recital.  Paul is one of the best organists and is not to be missed!

Another piano recital takes place on October 23, this time by Roman Rudnytsky who is an internationally-known pianist, originally from Ukraine. The month ends with music for a large wind ensemble consisting of ten musicians on October 30 – Wenlock Winds.  We will have the unusual treat of hearing part of Enescu’s Decet chamber music work composed by the Romanian George Enescu”.

Details and weekly programmes for these concerts can be found on the St Chad’s Church website.  Concerts are free of charge and there is lunch after each.  Collections are taken to cover expenses.
