Richard Walker, Concert Director at Shrewsbury’s St Chad’s church has announced programme details of the weekly Friday lunchtime concerts for May.

Richard Walker said: “On May 1st, I will give an organ recital, featuring Jongen’s Chant de Mai – to celebrate the beginning of May, together with music to show off the many varied colours of the St Chad’s organ.

May 8th sees one of the highlights of our season – a recital by students of Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester.  They are already excellent performers, but many of them will be the international stars of the future; there is a ‘buzz’ around Chetham’s concerts – so don’t miss it! A very different concert on May 15th: Total Vokal, a chamber choir from Germany who are in residence in the Midlands will perform, and we look forward to a really interesting and attractive programme.

The month is completed by a vocal recital by Birmingham Conservatoire student Sophie Henderson with pianist Ashley Wagner on May 22nd, and a violin recital by violinist Chu-Yu-Yang with pianist Eric McElroy, on May 29th – all of whom have previously performed by at St Chad’s to great acclaim.

We have five contrasting concerts in May, all taking place at 12.30pm.  Come and join the large and enthusiastic audience who enjoy 40 minutes of free music every Friday; we recently welcomed over 200 to one of our concerts!”

Details and weekly programmes for these concerts can be found on the St Chad’s Church website www.stchadschurchshrewsbury.com. All concerts are free of charge and there is lunch after each, with a collection taken to cover expenses.
