Richard Walker, Concert Director at Shrewsbury’s St Chad’s church has announced programme details of the weekly Friday lunchtime concerts for August.

Richard Walker said: “August concerts in St Chad’s feature the organ and piano! Organ recitals will be given by Martin Brown, Director of Music of Bangor Cathedral on August 14th, and by Mark Swinton, Director of Music of St Mary’s Warwick on August 28th.  They will both show off all the varied colours of the splendid St Chad’s organ.  Originally built in 1904, this organ has been regularly serviced and rebuilt – the last rebuild being in 2011 by Harrison and Harrison of Durham.  It has kept its wonderful Edwardian character through these rebuilds.

Piano recitals feature Jill Crossland, returning on August 7th to give us one of her lovely classical Bach-based programmes, and Daniel Gordon (another regular St Chad’s performer) on August 21st.  The piano is a fine 7′ Kawai, acknowledged by many leading pianists to be one of the best in the area.

Details and weekly programmes for these concerts can be found on the St Chad’s Church website.  Concerts are free of charge and there is lunch after each.  Collections are taken to cover expenses.   St Chad’s Concerts in the Round are really popular events, with over 150 attending most weeks.   For many of our audience, Friday is ‘St Chad’s Day’ – and nothing is allowed to get in the way of that!”
