The weekly concert series at St Chad’s Church, Shrewsbury, continues until Christmas with another 12 concerts to look forward to on Fridays, all starting at 12.30pm. After each 40-minute concert there is a light lunch in the church hall, where many of the audience come to chat and meet the performers. All free of charge, but donations are welcome to help cover costs.
Concert Director Richard Walker said: “I welcome people to come and enjoy some superb performances in the splendid ambience of St. Chads. The month begins with a return visit on October 4th by pianist Harry Raybould, who will play a lovely programme including music by Chopin, Debussy, Liszt and Rachmaninov. On October 11th, one of our regular performers – harpist Gina Taylor returns. Her blend of modern and classical music for harp, with some arrangements, is always popular. Then on October 18th there is a piano duet concert by Gill Styles and myself (Richard Walker), featuring Bizet’s timeless ‘Jeux d’Enfants’ – a set of 12 character pieces for children to listen to. But they are equally popular with adults! Finally, our annual concert by an organ student at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire will be given on October 25th by prize-winning Elli-Mae McGlone. She was an organ scholar at Doncaster Minster, and then at St Edmundsbury Cathedral and is now studying with Daniel Moult and Nicholas Wearne”.
