A Shropshire law firm has upgraded its website with an “assistive toolbar” – meaning visitors can now customise content, making it easier to navigate and access the vital information they need.
Lanyon Bowdler has installed the toolbar as part of an ongoing commitment to make its services as accessible and inclusive as possible, including those with sight problems or other special needs.
As well as the new website facility, the firm is training team members to understand the challenges faced by neurodivergent clients and staff so they can assist them in the best way.
Amanda Jones, marketing director, said the website assistive toolbar and staff training had proved to be a success with lots of positive feedback reported.
She said: “We are always looking at ways we can improve the way we do things and facilities like the assistive toolbar can make a big difference.
“We believe that every website user deserves an inclusive online experience – one with customisable options allowing them to choose how they navigate and take in information.
“It is important for everyone but we also know just how difficult it can be to get the information you need if you have a disability or visual impairment.
“There are 285 million people worldwide who have a visual impairment and the assistive toolbar, for example, can turn text into speech, helping our website users to perceive and understand our digital content – which can be customised to suit the viewer.”
The Recite Me Assistive Toolbar makes it easy to adjust website elements to individual needs, including changing font size, style and colour, zoom functionality and keyboard navigation.
It is already used successfully by many businesses and organisations such as Birmingham Airport, British Gas, KFC and Tesco.
Amanda added: “During the last year, the toolbar has been launched on more than seven million websites, creating more than 46 million inclusive web pages, and is something we view as a vital addition to our offering and the service we provide at Lanyon Bowdler.
“The technology ensures users of our website can access vital resources and information through a bespoke suite of customisable tools including reading aids, styling tools, and a translation feature – making the digital journey with Lanyon Bowdler much easier and stress-free.”
