Concerts in the Round – one of the biggest series of such concerts in the country – continues at St Chad’s church, Shrewsbury every Friday in June.  Concerts begin at 12.30pm, are free of charge, and there is lunch afterwards in the church hall. The concerts in June will present singing, guitar music, and an organ recital!

Concert Director Richard Walker said: “On June 7th Ukrainian guitarist Galina Vale will present her annual St Chad’s recital.  Galina has a charismatic stage presence and has an unusually wide ranging and technically demanding repertoire including classical, flamenco, and arrangements of Latin American and East European folk music. St Chad’s church has one of the best organs for miles around, and organists at the top of their profession are always pleased to come and play it.  June 14th will see a recital by Philip Rushforth – organist of Chester Cathedral – and he will certainly put the organ through its paces. Piano recitals are a feature of this concert series, and on June 21st the distinguished pianist Julian Hellaby plays here for the first time.  Julian has performed in Europe, Africa and Asia both as solo pianist and as a concerto soloist and we are delighted to have persuaded him to come to St Chad’s. The month ends with a concert by pupils of Shrewsbury High School offering solos and ensembles. Once again I welcome people to come and enjoy some superb performances in the splendid ambience of St. Chads”.
