Theatre Severn Panto Review by Eluned Watson.

The curtain rises on another sparkling pantomime season at Theatre Severn, welcoming back everyone’s favourite pantomime dame, Brad Fitt, for his 14th year – both directing and delighting audiences as Dame Sally. Produced by Evolution, this year’s ‘Dick Whittington and his Cat’ is a masterclass in keeping the whole family entertained, packed with non-stop laughs, catchy songs, energetic dance routines, and plenty of surprises.

From the moment Brad Fitt steps on stage, it’s clear why audiences adore him. His improvisational flair and comic timing ensure every scene featuring Dame Sally is a hit, with a fabulous new outfit for almost every entrance. His Barbie ‘Lardie’ is a particular favourite – watch out as she searches the audience for her very own Ken.

Tommy J shines as Billy ‘ey ey Billy’, quickly becoming a festive favourite and giving Brad Fitt a run for his money. Now in his fourth year at Theatre Severn, Tommy’s circus skills never fail to wow the audience. Yet, it’s his effortless humour and sparkling chemistry with Brad Fitt that truly steal the show.

The production is packed with memorable moments: the market barrow of puns, jokes on road signs, and the obligatory ghost bench. The unpredictable ‘12 Days of Christmas’ routine, complete with five custard pies, is messy, hilarious, and a clear crowd-pleaser.

While the Dick Whittington story is a winding one, the talented cast keeps the tale on track perfectly. Tim Whitnall makes a memorable pantomime debut as the villainous King Rat, while Cara Dudgeon as Fairy Bowbells ties the story together with strong singing, dancing, and beautifully delivered rhyming couplets. Ollie Wray shines as Dick Whittington, bringing a great singing voice and plenty of charm to the role, supported by Lottie Stone as Alice Fitzwarren, whose acting, singing, and likability make her the perfect heroine. Izzy Charlotte Oliver delights as Tommy the cat (named Caroline for this production – cue a rousing rendition of ‘Sweet Caroline’).

A breathtaking highlight sees Dick under the sea on a turtle – a surreal, beautiful moment that must be seen to be believed. The villagers, sailors, and rats – including a team of supremely talented local children – add extra sparkle to the show.

Once again, Evolution expertly blends beloved traditions with fresh surprises, keeping the show vibrant year after year. This production is pantomime gold and the perfect way to start your Christmas celebrations. With only a few seats remaining, don’t miss your chance to join the festive fun.

Dick Whittington runs until 3 January 2026. Tommy J’s own show, ‘Keep Smiling’, is at Theatre Severn on 7 February 2026. Book now at www.theatresevern.co.uk
