Whittington’s seventh international music festival made a big impression on five Borderland artists who were among the audience in May. With sketchbooks in hand they recorded their impressions of the six-day programme of Czech classical music by attending rehearsals and performances by 11 world-class musicians.

The results of their creativity are on display in Oswestry’s Willow Gallery throughout September.

“The ‘players’ were not only a very skilled and talented lot but also lovely people,” says Bob Knowles who is displaying pieces in wood and steel.

For Gill Crozier, Smetana’s ‘From my Life’ quartet provided the inspiration for her three-piece screen. “I was struck by the relationship between the physical movements of the musicians and the intricacies in the music,” she says.
