On Sunday 7th October, Amy Bell, Trainee Accountant at DRE & Co Chartered Accountants Oswestry, took part in the Cardiff Half Marathon, raising money for Mind – the mental health charity.
Amy chose to enter the race with her younger sister, Lel, to support a well deserving charity and increase awareness.
Mind believe that no one should have to face a mental health problem alone. Every year, one in four of us will experience a mental health problem, but hundreds of thousands of people still do not have the support and help they need.
Mind provides help and support directly to those who need it most. With a network of around 135 local offices, they offer specialised and local support. They will listen, give you support and fight your corner.
This was a personal challenge for Amy, who had no previous running experience prior to her training and then had to run 13.1 miles to complete the course.
Amy’s training plan consisted only of three practice runs before the day – with the furthest distance being 8 miles, only 6 days before the race.
Together, with her sister by her side, Amy completed the race in 2 hours 40 minutes, which was an amazing achievement.
So far, they have managed to raise £500 between them – which has gone above and beyond their initial target of £200.
Amy stated, “It is so important that we try and help charities, you never know when you may need their help or support”.
