In what turned out to be a first for Oswestry Golf Club a Mother and Daughter reached the 2018 Ladies Club Championship Final
Judith & Gemma Thornell reached the final following a number of excellent wins in the preceding rounds. Currently playing off 5 Gemma was going for her 13th Ladies Club Championship title against the very person who inspired her to take up golf and who has been a proud supporter of hers throughout her golfing career.
Gemma came out victorious to claim title number 13 to once again stamp her mark on the event
Gemma went on to say ‘It was a bit surreal competing against Mum after everything she has done for me and my golf over the years. We play lots of social golf together, but this did put a slightly different spin on things. I’m delighted to win but most of all extremely proud to have shared this final with Mum’
However there is a glimmer of hope for her competitors for 2019 as Gemma is expecting her first child early next year, although she is still expecting to compete in next years event.
The ladies section at Oswestry continues to go from strength to strength, with a number of single figure players in their ranks and excellent introductory golf sessions put on by Head Professional Rich Edwards and supported by Judith to encourage new ladies to get into golf and join what is a very social, friendly membership.
